Common Questions About
Trauma & Fracture Care

How long does it take for a fracture to heal?
Most fractures take between 6 to 8 weeks to heal, but recovery time can vary depending on the bone involved, the severity of the break, and the patient's age and overall health.
Will I need surgery for my broken bone?
Not all fractures require surgery. Many can be treated with a cast, splint, or brace. Surgery is typically recommended for severe breaks, displaced bones, or joint fractures that require pins, plates, or screws to align properly.
What should I do immediately after a suspected fracture?
Immobilize the injured area, apply an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to reduce swelling, elevate the limb if possible, and seek immediate emergency medical care.
Can a bone fracture heal on its own without a cast?
While a bone will attempt to heal itself, without proper medical alignment and immobilization (like a cast), it may heal crookedly, leading to chronic pain, reduced mobility, and arthritis.
When can I return to sports after a fracture?
Return to sports depends entirely on the type of fracture and how well it has healed. Dr. Arun will evaluate your X-rays and physical strength before clearing you for athletic activities, usually taking a few months.
